Director’s Note
Once it was decided to stage the plays of yesteryears again, as part of a celebration of the completion of the 150th year of Bengal drama, Rangroop decided to perform “Manmoyee Girls’ School” scripted by late Rabindranath Mitra. This play was first performed on 26th December 1932 at Star Theatre. The play depicts a different kind of a society, men and women, their love stories; and related conspiracies. The olden time explored is not comparable with our times. We have chosen this production so as to reach out our past, experience the people, their speech patterns, their love relations and rejections, their adornments and more. While working anew on the play, we realized, it was not easy to portray in the present time the simplicity of the characters and their behaviour that was prevalent in those days. It is all hard work and the manifold happiness that it generated. We are now ready to share the treasures of the good old days with all of you.
